Hey everybody! Shana Tova U'Metuka and thanks for visiting JCAN! We're also looking for some help around the office. It's Been a While... (09 July 2010)
First off, I want to apologize for my lack of updates over the last month and a half. This has been a very busy time for me, I just started a second job and have been doing some travel for work, and I've had some difficulty in keeping up with responsibilities… So while I've got about 30 article/post ideas running around my head, I've just decided to double up on tasks here as a quick update to the blog while working out some deeper, more textual/traditional based articles. So here it is: JCAN's list of 10 problems facing the Jewish-Environmental Movement… [READ MORE]

WHAT WE'RE UP TO
JCAN needs your help! We're looking for a few volunteers and ideas people for a couple new projects.
- The website needs some work, and our website software is really simple. So, if you have any kind of computer experience at all and can donate a couple hours of your time, we'd love to have you on board!
- We'd love to have our own domain name. If you or anyone you know is interested in sponsoring a new JCAN website, please send us an email or contact us for more information.
- With the support of a leading Jewish-Environmental education group, Sviva Israel, JCAN is creating a new Jewish Environmental curriculum for college and post-grad aged folks, and would love to have some extra researchers and curriculum writers on board. No experience is required, just a desire to spread the tenets of Jewish Environmentalism and environmental action to our communities. Even better, you can do this online, over the phone, or through the mail.
- Do you hate mountaintop removal coal mining? Want to take part in a massive weekend of education, action, and movement building? Join JCAN Sept 25-27 in Washington DC for Appalachia Rising, a mass mobilization in Washington, DC, calling for an end to the devastating practice of mountaintop removal mining. We will be driving down from Boston, but can potentially arrange housing and transportation for anyone interested. Please email JewishClimateAction@gmail.com or contact us with the subject/heading "Appalachia Rising".
- JCAN is organizing a Real Climate Trial around the trial of Tim DeChristopher this December. We want to put the coal and oil barons on trial and could use your help. Ideas? Extra time on your hands? Drop us a line at JewishClimateAction@gmail.com or TDCBoston@gmail.com, or you can fill out the form on our contact us page.

JCAN's Mission
JCAN's mission is to provide young, environmentally concerned Jews with alternative Jewish experiences through environmental action and learning.
The rich environmental tradition in Judaism is often overlooked. Young Jews, specifically those aged 18-25, often feel disconnected from the established Jewish community, which largely fails to engage young Jews on their own terms and from within their own interests. These trends combine to create a less involved young Jewish community.
Formed in 2010, JCAN engages young Jews, ages 18-25, with Jewish responses to contemporary environmental problems. We do this with text studies, discussions, and actions on community, national, and international issues. By doing so, JCAN creates a a wave of connected, concerned, and active young Jews interested in creating a better world, and working to this end from within the Jewish tradition.
JCAN is a program started with the help and support of the 2010 CJP/PresenTense Boston Social Entrepreneur Fellowship.
